Pre-Event Volunteer Activities

To Dos

HOW TO USE THIS LIST: If you would like to undertake a task, then:

1) Write your name in front of the task title (use the Edit function tab above to do this).  If you have trouble using the "Edit" function, please leave your information in the comments section below, and Mike LaTorra will get back to you.

2) Expect to hear from Mike LaTorra (mlatorra@gmail.com) from time to time about how your work is progressing.

3) Complete task and then write DONE in front of that list item.

 

  • DONE-Add new 2.0 templates
  • EDITORIAL CALENDAR: Review editorial calendar.
  • PHYSICAL ADS: Distribute flyers/postcards on academic and corporate campuses, especially in locations in easy travel distance of Mountain View (e.g. Google, UC system, etc.).  Volunteer should first make a list and post it here, so we all can help add to it.

  • MEDIA: Invite top-flight media to attend event & get pre-event coverage. Volunteer will need to coordinate with committee to select the media and get approval on wording of invitation. Volunteer should first make a list and post it here, so we all can help add to it.
  • BLOGS: Post to highly trafficked blogs (e.g., BoingBoing et al.). Ask bloggers to post, and offer link back. Invite selected bloggers to attend (no free admissions, however). Some top bloggers may qualify as media above. Volunteer should first make a list and post it here, so we all can help add to it.
  • NEWSLETTERS: Send email to newsletter subscribers. Volunteer should first make a list and post it here, so we all can help add to it.
  • MAILING LISTS: Send email to relevant email lists. Volunteer should first make a list and post it here, so we all can help add to it.
  • SOCIAL NETWORK WEB:  Volunteer should first make a list and post it here, so we all can help add to it.

    - Facebook: We have an existing Facebook page for this conference. Link to friends/others as appropriate. Ask friends to post on Facebook / groups & mailing lists

    - Twitter: Become a "mentioner" who drops tweets about the conference. We need several people doing this.

    • @silverton - suggest using unique and unused hashtag like #nbic08 or #v08 for more intentional experiment in Augmented Social Cognition during event, ala #ss08, #samthinks, #samz, #web2summit. will set up better, cleaner monitter and tweetgrid on wiki later. - DONE, READY
